Ultimate Halloween Costume Wishlist

by

When Halloween or conventions come about, I always think back to my wishlist of costumes. If money weren’t an issue, I’d have these costumes yesterday.

Pyramid Head

Render of Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2. His head is a rusty metal pyramid, he wears a dirty butcher's apron, and he holds a large spear.

I’ve wanted a Pyramid Head costume ever since I was a teenager. In theory, the helmet wouldn’t be hard to make, you would probably need styrofoam or something. But I want it to look really rusty and bloody in a way that painted styrofoam can’t quite get. There’s also the issue of PH’s Great Knife. As cool as it would be to have, it would probably be a pain to drag that around. I probably could make his alternate weapon, a spear.

Twinrova (Ocarina of Time)

A detailed illustration of Twinrova from Ocarina of Time, featuring her with fire and ice elements. She has a striking headdress and intricate clothing patterns, with a flaming broom-wand in one hand and ice-covered broom-wand in the other.

I wouldn’t mind cosplaying as several Gerudo characters, but Twinrova is at the top of the list. The intricate patterns on her clothes would be a daunting/expensive task in themselves, but there’s also the matter of the magical energy nonsense coming out of her headdress and wands. I’ve seen a few cosplayers pull this off, and they use feathers or sparkly tulle to give it that glittery, flowy look.

Several Transformers

It’s hard to choose just one Transformer to make a costume out of. Optimus Prime is a classic, but Soundwave is, too. Waspinator holds a special place in my heart. Of course, there are also female Transformers like Chromia or Elita-1

If I were to dress as a Transformer, ideally, I’d want to be able to “transform” too. There are a few videos out there of people in Autobot or Decepticon costumes curling into little balls and looking like cars and trucks. Some even have actual wheels on the costumes so they can roll out! “Transforming” might not happen with a Waspinator costume, considering his alt-mode is a fucking wasp. But, if I could get a Soundwave costume going with working speakers and a working tablet on my chest that could change the music, that might be a lot of fun.

Several Pokémon and Pokémon gijinkas

Have you ever seen footage of someone in a Pikachu, Gengar, or Snorlax costume just walking around? I want to do that. Yes, the inside of the suit may be hot, but I think it would also be pretty fun to just scoot around as a big Pokémon. Maybe even the Geodude with the PNG pattern legs.

For those that don’t know what a “gijinka” is, it’s basically a humanized version of a non-human thing. Lots of fan artists and cosplayers have made Pokémon gijinkas with amazing designs that still get the “Pokemon-ness” across. Tops on my list are Gyarados, Mewtwo, Venusaur, and Goldeen. But, the biggest question would be, what design would work best for each? I know for certain the Goldeen one needs to be a white and orange ballgown.

White Diamond (Steven Universe)

Artwork of White Diamond from Steven Universe. She has a star-shaped head, wears a long white gown and an elaborate, sparkly cape decorated with stars and cosmic patterns.

White Diamond has a really cool design as a whole, though I prefer her debut design better. Her gown and shoes are lovely, and she’s also the only Diamond (and I think the only SU character) with visible fingernails and toenails in their design; all a shiny black.  There’s a bit of debate with cosplayers on how to deal with her hair. Some opt to make it completely plastic, since it looks like she’s wearing a crown. Others use synthetic hair molded into shape with glue.

The coolest and hardest part of a White Diamond costume may be the cape. The back is white/light grey like the rest of her clothes, but the inside is black/grey and covered with sparkles, like a starry sky. That would probably be the hardest and most expensive thing to do.

Tiffany (Faith: The Unholy Trinity)

GIF of Tiffany from Faith: the Unholy Trinity. She stands with her back to the camera, completely naked. Her head has exploded in a mess of blood, and a large, red-eyed spider-legged demon is perched on her shoulders, attached to the base of her neck.

One of the secret bosses in Chapter 3 of Faith is Tiffany, a cultist who was so in love with the cult’s leader that she willingly performed THE RITUAL™ on herself, resulting in THIS monstrosity that exploded from her head.

Could you imagine THIS bullshit coming towards you on Halloween?

Obviously, I wouldn’t be naked, and I couldn’t be in a place with low ceilings, but I’d need some quality stage makeup and prosthetics just to make the exploded head look realistic. Then, lots of foam, wiring, and other nonsense to make the giant demon on my head. If it were possible, I’d want it to move around a little, maybe opening its mouth and growling. But, it has a HUGE mouth. A puppet like that would cost a pretty penny.

Because I’m not rich, for Halloween this year, I was thinking I wanted to dress up like a cowgirl. Not a sexy, cutesy one, but a real gunslinger gal with the leather chaps and whip and stuff. (I’m Black. I’m not walking around outside with a fake gun in my hands after dark.)

…I’ll need to do that piecemeal, since I’m having trouble finding costume sets for a cowgirl that AREN’T sexy/cutesy. I can’t make someone “yee their last haw” when my buttcheeks are showing.
